MP on why Lukashenko so often talks about importance of Belarusians’ unity
The United States does not need such an island of stability as Belarus: it rather wants to destroy it, but the people’s unity can save the country – as noted by a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Sergei Klishevich, in his talk with Alfa Radio
On January 7th, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko visited the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Logoisk and, among other things, once again warned that the year 2025 is likely not to be easy, but Belarusians can cope with any challenges. “If we are united, stand together and look in the same direction, we are going to be all right. We will overcome all difficulties and challenges. We have learned how to overcome them, and we know how to do that. However, we can do that only if we unite our efforts,” he said then.
Mr. Klishevich explained why the President constantly talks about the importance of the unity of Belarusians, “We see what is happening around Belarus, in the neighbouring countries at present. We see how the geopolitical reality is being altered, how peoples and countries are being merely grinded – with no mercy for anyone. Naturally, the Head of State wisely noted that Belarus is an island of stability, a donor of peace, which Americans, for example, do not need actually. Their task is to fight and make money on wars. They want to destroy the island of stability, and the saddest option is the Ukrainian one – when people die daily in the name of the interests of their overseas ‘friends’.”
The MP stressed that the unity only can save Belarus from such a scenario, “This is a historical axiom. Our President is a historian, and he knows many historical situations very well. The unity has always helped nations to survive. What sort of destruction is possible if people are united? During the Great Patriotic War, for example, the people’s unity in their struggle against Nazism yielded fruit: we liberated not only our lands, but the whole world. It was the unity that saved us, because the forces (primarily, military-technical opportunities) were not equal in the beginning: at that time, the whole of Europe worked for Hitler's Germany.”
In addition, the expert mentioned the events of 2020 in Belarus as another example, “Then the unity saved us as well. Not a single high-ranking official flinched, and incredibly many people stood in defence of their President and the constitutional order. There are many examples in history showing that a state loses sovereignty, independence and starts being used for purposes unfavourable to its people if the society is fragmented, if the unity is broken.”
