Expert on migrant workers: anyone wishing to come and work honestly in Belarus are much appreciated
During his working trip to the Petrikov District of the Gomel region, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko touched upon an important topic – the attraction of labour migrants from former Soviet republics, and it was suggested to focus on the relocation of all family members, since this approach would fundamentally change the attitude to work. In his talk with Alfa Radio, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Healthcare, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross, Dmitry Shevtsov, commented on the proposal of the Head of State.
As noted by Mr. Shevtsov, the whole world lives in a regime when migrant workers come to other countries in order to work, and millions of such people contribute to the economy – as seen on the example of Europe or the Middle East.
“People who come to Belarus in order to start life from scratch have great potential. They want to socialise, and we are ready to invite them. Belarus is a multinational, multi-religious country, and we appreciate anyone wishing to come and work honestly for the benefit of Belarus,” the expert said. “Moreover, we are ready to help with employment and accommodation.”
At the same time, according to Mr. Shevtsov, the President's proposal to relocate together with family members is extremely important. “When migrants arrive alone, their connection with the homeland remains strong, which makes them ‘half-hearted’ workers. When they relocate with family members, their children go to our kindergartens and schools, and they become fully involved in the life of society. We fully support this approach and welcome all those who are willing to share a peaceful life with us in Belarus,” he added.
