Expert on Lukashenko's meeting with Sultan of Oman: countries united by two strong leaders

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman arrived in Belarus on an official visit on October 6th, and President Aleksandr Lukashenko met the distinguished guest at the Palace of Independence. The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral co-operation, including the implementation of agreements reached in December 2024 during the working visit of the President of Belarus to Oman, with the focus on the intensification of trade and economic liaisons. In her talk with Alfa Radio, Nadezhda Lazarevich, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Minsk City Executive Committee, commented on the meeting.

According to Ms. Lazarevich, Belarus and Oman are united by two strong leaders, and it can be easily seen from the news videos how well they understand each other. “I am sure that the proposals dealing with sales of industrial equipment announced at the meeting will soon be implemented. As the Head of State said, everything that Belarusians promise is always done," she noted, explaining that Belarus values every opportunity to present and sell its products.

As underlined by Ms. Lazarevich, the first step towards co-operation was taken by the President during his visit to the region, and it is time for the relevant ministers to formalise the agreements that will be implemented in the coming years. “A Belarusian hub in the Persian Gulf will create an additional opportunity for the republic to use new logistics routes and increase trade with Oman and neighbouring countries," she explained. “The creation of the hub once again confirms that Oman is a strategic partner for us. It will open up additional prospects for Belarus and Oman. I am sure that businesses develop when mutually beneficial conditions exist for both sides. With this in view, it’s an excellent example of how the potential of Belarus and Oman will be revealed thanks to the Belarusian hub created in this territory.”

Mr. Lazarevich stressed that the visa-free regime between the countries will give businesses the opportunity to respond quickly to requests, also contributing to the growth of tourist flows. As noted by the expert, Belarusians – mostly people of working age – already holiday in the region. “I believe the businessmen who have gone there primarily as tourists will be able to discover some additional business opportunities. The visa-free regime is a benefit for both Belarus and Oman. The residents of Oman have, in turn, the opportunity to discover the tourist opportunities of our republic.”

Ms. Lazarevich also noted that co-operation with Oman is actively developing in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and industry. She believes the sphere of petrochemicals is next in line. “Oman is interested in the equipment of MAZ and Amkodor. I think it will be supplied to the region, and perhaps joint ventures will be created. Moreover, I am sure that Oman will show interest in co-operation in the field of medical education,” she said.
