Expert: it’s important for Belarus to consider its national interests

It is important for Belarus to take into account its national interests; in particular, there should be no threats from our southern neighbours and not only from them. According to political scientist Piotr Petrovsky, this applies not only to military, but also political, economic and other expansions.

“If we are talking about Ukraine, we should also remember the property that was seized there from our state and our economic entities. We should take steps to return it. If Trump does not take into account not only Belarusian interests, but also the interests of other players – Russia, China, the countries of the collective East and other states – then all his peace initiatives that he outlined in his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin will remain on paper. Dictating and imposing one’s positions will not work. The process must be transparent, open and inclusive of the interests of all participants. So far, we see that Trump is acting like an elephant in a china shop. He decided that he would twist everyone’s arms and bend them to some framework agreements. But in this way, the system will not work, and all the steps taken to resolve the conflict will be ineffective. In this respect, the China-Brazil initiative, which takes into account the interests of other countries of the Global Majority and is being promoted quietly and without pressure on the participants in the process, is much more interesting,” the expert explained.
