Expert explained the reason for Poland’s hostility towards Belarus and Russia

Political expert, Chairman of the Republican Znanie Belarusian Society, Vadim Gigin, expressed his opinion regarding the reasons for Poland’s historical hostility towards Belarus and Russia in his talk with Alfa Radio

According to the expert, xenophobia and unfulfilled imperialism lie at the root of the Polish authorities’ disdain for their neighbours in Eastern Europe.

“The policy of the Polish authorities is traditionally hostile towards Belarusians, Russians and Ukrainians, because opposition, neglect and hatred towards our three nations are part of the Polish nationalist, chauvinistic foundation. In general, Polish xenophobic nationalism [is directed] towards everyone: Lithuanians, Germans, Czechs... Imperial ambitions are great, but Polish imperialism is unfulfilled,” believes Mr. Gigin.

The political analyst noted that the Polish authorities dream of creating fourth Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

“They decided that they have such a political chance. The main task of the Law and Justice Party is to establish new imperial Poland and the Intermarium [this term was commonly used to define the area between the Baltic and Black Seas]. They consider our territories as a zone of their influence. Some Western analysts spoke about the role of Poland in the 21st century, which supposedly could expand its territory, or at least its zone of influence. For this, it is necessary to inflict a historical defeat on Russia. Therefore, we observe such hysteria and readiness to take big steps, although there is a significant challenge for Polish imperialism and nationalism. Their aggressive plans include providing assistance to the Kiev regime and those supporting Bandera movement, but in the ideological context, the Banderites are historical enemies. When Ukrainian flags are hoisted all over Poland, and distraught priests bring speakers, turning on marches in honour of Bandera, Polish nationalists [come] into shock,” noted Vadim Gigin.

According to him, the Polish imperial project will not be implemented in the 21st century.

“There are several reasons for this. Firstly, there are not enough resources. Secondly, when you hate everyone around you, you need to have someone to like you. We like Russia, and many Ukrainians, Serbs, Montenegrins like it too... And who likes Poland? Americans tell jokes about them. <...> The Germans can’t stand the Poles, the Czechs don’t like them either,” stated Mr. Gigin.
