Expert: European Parliament illegitimate to assess the course of Belarus’ electoral process as it has no observers in the republic
Belarusian parliamentarians are outraged by the resolution of the European Parliament on the Presidential election in Belarus, since this document is a gross interference in the internal affairs of the republic and violates its electoral sovereignty – as stated by Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, commenting on the MEPs’ resolution that calls the EU member states not to recognise the results of the Presidential election in Belarus, as well as to continue to expand sanctions against Minsk
The MP drew attention to the fact that an unacceptable attempt is being made in this way to put pressure on Belarusian voters, “The European Parliament is illegal to assess the course of the electoral process in our country without having its own observers and without having objective, full-fledged information. The text of the resolution is full of fabrications, fakes and misinformation. It does not deserve any attention, much less consideration. I am confident that the appeals of the European Parliament (that is behind the times) not to recognise the election results and to continue the policy of sanctions against Belarus will not be heeded in a changing world that is on the path of strengthening multipolarity and cultural diversity.”
Mr. Rachkov added, “Elections in Belarus are held on an alternative basis in a calm and constructive atmosphere. They are organised in full compliance with the Belarusian electoral legislation. More than 500 foreign representatives have been registered for international monitoring, including 80+ parliamentarians (legislators from European countries are among them). We fully comply with our international obligations in the context of organising the electoral process.”
