Expert comments on how Belarusian economy will develop in 2023

This year, establishment of new production facilities will be in focus – as stated by Yulia Abukhovich, a senior lecturer at the Belarusian State Technological University’s Economic Theory and Marketing Department, in her talk with the STV TV channel

The expert noted that, in the past years, the collective West tried to isolate Belarus and accordingly undermine economy by imposing sanctions. “Belarus has remained a country that exists within the framework of the world economy. We have not been isolated, we have not become an outcast, so we are moving forward," Ms. Abukhovich said.

According to the economist, Belarus had quite ambitious plans for 2022. “However, the sanctions later imposed against our country and Russia have brought much trouble. At the same time, we have already had the experience of living under restrictions. We have recovered, relying on our strategic partner: the Russian Federation. While we have been doing that, sanctions were imposed against Russia – and the Russian Federation could rely on Belarus," she explained.

Ms. Abukhovich believes everyone should mind their own business in order to achieve success in the Belarusian economy. “We have quite ambitious, but at the same time realistic plans for 2023. We will be able to achieve them if we think strategically. We cannot stop there, we need to think about development. Trading is great, but it is not the way to develop. We need to get involved in co-operative chains and create something new. We cannot lag behind the world. Belarus should be not just a buyer, but a manufacturer of high-tech goods that everyone needs," she stated.
