Expert: by expanding, NATO is weakening itself with its own hands

Political analyst Aleksei Belyaev shares his opinion on the issue of what will coalitions of the world’s leading countries, as well as the activities of a number of military blocs that pose a threat, look like in the future

“The tandem of China and Russia does not pretend but is actually a new centre of power that has challenged American hegemony. The war against the unipolar world order is already underway in the most direct sense of the word. The events in Syria, which became the forerunner of the events in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian conflict itself are a real hot phase. Moreover, the short-sighted policy of the Biden government, aimed at undermining the economic well-being of the EU, led to the fact that Europe, as a centre of power, was one of the first to be knocked out,” the political expert explains.

“The expansion of the NATO bloc and the creation of its Asian counterpart in the form of AUKUS, oddly enough, harms this organisation itself. Firstly, this causes a response and forces countries that perceive NATO as a direct threat to more actively form new military-political blocs. Secondly, the expansion and inclusion in the organisation of countries that have their own contradictions has a negative impact on discipline in the alliance. For example, relations between Turkey and Greece are constantly on the verge of conflict, and these are two NATO member states. An attempt to control the whole world by open military measures, and not just to protect the European region (this is precisely what was declared as the main task of the North Atlantic Alliance), certainly increases the fears of other countries, pushing them towards rapprochement. The Middle East is also interested in peace, which is disturbed there by the presence of NATO countries. Therefore, by expanding, the alliance weakens itself with its own hands,” Aleksei Belyaev sums up.
