Expert: Belarus’ strategies to protect national interests can act as example for world politics
Currently, only a few of the 43 European states correspond to the classical concept of a sovereign state as a carrier of political and legal independence, and these are primarily the Republic of Belarus, Hungary, and the Republic of Serbia – as stated by political expert Yuri Voskresensky at the Congress of Patriotic Forces organised by the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus in Minsk under the motto For Peace and Development and dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders
Speaking about the main challenges that modern states face today, the expert noted, “Currently, only a few of the 43 European states correspond to the classical concept of a sovereign state as a carrier of political and legal independence, and these are primarily the Republic of Belarus, Hungary, and the Republics of Serbia. All other countries of the northern, southern, western and eastern parts of the European continent refuse to realise their national interests – in one way or another. The three Baltic and one still Black Sea limitrophe states are the most vivid example of the total destruction of their own statehood and sovereignty, the persecution of their citizens according to national, religious, and linguistic principles.”
At the same time, Mr. Voskresensky stressed, “Over the past three decades, Belarus’ foreign policy has been influenced by global events that have a significant impact on the country's strategic priorities. Thanks to the first President of the Republic of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, who has been elected to the post of Head of State since 1994, Belarus has transformed into a self-sufficient regional player who is actively promoting sovereign meanings in the international arena. The republic’s strategies to protect its national interests can become an example of an effective response to negative challenges and trends in world politics.”
More than fifty guests from the Russian Federation, the European Union and other countries are taking part in the two-day Congress of Patriotic Forces in Minsk. As its organisers emphasise, this is a great opportunity to convey the position of the President of the Republic of Belarus about the processes that are taking place in our common home today.
