Expert: Baltic States overwhelmed by wave of self-destruction
State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich has rejected Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s speculations about the threat to Poland and the Baltic States from the territory of Belarus. Speaking to the SB TV YouTube channel, national security expert and colonel in reserve Aleksandr Tishchenko explained why the West has long been promoting the narrative about the alleged threat from Belarus and Russia.
The expert drew attention to the fact that Belarus is not threatening anyone and will continue to pursue a peace-loving policy, while Ukraine is now trying to play on the idea, which has long been promoted in Poland and the Baltic States.
“They began to pedal the imaginary theme of a threat from the East and that Belarus and Russia were allegedly making some aggressive plans towards NATO’s right flank even before 2014. Now this work is continuing. And the main problem is that they [in the Baltic States and Poland] are already starting to believe in this idea themselves. The behaviour of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania indicates that they are really preparing for an attack. They are actively digging trenches, pouring concrete and so on. Poland has also joined in. It’s a paradox. For example, Lithuania spends about 5 percent of its GDP on military needs, but that is only enough to buy soap for the army, not tanks. Things are also very bad in Estonia and Latvia. However, they say that they will help Ukraine and are ready to send their troops there. How can you help? What troops? A wave of self-destruction has swept across the Baltic States. If they go on like this, they will reach such a level that it will be impossible to rise. The authorities of these states are frightening their population with an idea that has been driven to madness. And it is the leading idea for them today. Meanwhile, Ukraine, which is scaring everyone with Moscow and Minsk, is just trying to play on it. But the United States, Germany and other major countries understand very well what is going on,” Mr. Tishchenko emphasised.
In addition, the expert noted that escalation is favourable to those who want to get their hands on it, “Theft is closely linked to militarisation. After all, as they say, the war will justify everything. This is a very good scheme for enrichment. And the limitrophic states of Europe are firmly tied to this topic. Until reasonable people come to power there, the decline of these countries will continue.”
