European Parliament adopted resolution calling on not to recognise results of Belarus’ election

MEPs adopted a resolution by a majority vote calling on the EU countries not to recognise the results of the Presidential election in Belarus, as well as to continue to expand sanctions against Minsk, BelTA reports with reference to the official website of the European Parliament

The voting on the document has taken place today, January 22nd.

It is known that the EP resolutions on foreign policy issues are advisory in nature

and are not binding on the institutions of the European Union or the member states of the community.

Anatoly Glaz, a representative of Belarus’ Foreign Ministry, earlier stated about the gross interference of the European Union in the Belarusian electoral campaign. He noted that the resolution of the European Parliament is a gross interference in the electoral processes of the sovereign state, it has nothing to do with the real state of affairs and is designed to put pressure on the free expression of the Belarusian citizens’ will.
