EU established commission to combat thefts of Western aid in Ukraine

The European Union has created a commission to combat corruption and embezzlement of funds that the West is allocating to Kiev, in particular, within the framework of its 50bn Euro assistance fund, TASS reports with reference to the EU Council resolution

“The control commission will <...> deal with countering the illegal use of EU funding within the framework of the [EU] assistance programme for Ukraine, including the fight against fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest, and other crimes,” the document reads.

It is noted that the EU control commission’s main staff will work in Brussels, and a separate unit will be created in Kiev.

The new body will be accountable to the European Commission.
