EU diplomat: US refusal to support mission in Ukraine to undermine NATO unity
The US refusal to support European troops in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine will pose a threat to NATO unity – as noted by an EU diplomat, TASS reports
According to the Financial Times newspaper, the fact that US President Donald Trump refused to offer American air cover or other support has raised serious concerns about the proposed peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
“No one wants to see a small number of European troops without US support on the firing line in Ukraine. This will put a huge strain on the unity of NATO if something happens,” the source pointed out.
British PM Keir Starmer said following an online summit on Ukraine that military commanders from the countries of the ‘coalition of the willing’ will gather in London on March 20th to discuss operational details of sending troops to Ukraine. The British PM added that a number of countries had made ‘specific commitments’ to participate in the ‘peacekeeping force’ mission in Ukraine, without disclosing the details of the arrangements.
