Elizabeth and Lady Anne knew each other since childhood, becoming friends in a squad of girl guides on the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The Queen affectionately called her friend ‘Micky’.

Lady Anne's husband, Lord Rupert Nevill, served as a personal treasurer and private secretary to Prince Philip.

According to several sources, the monarchs often stayed at the Nevills' house and travelled to nearby Brighton to secretly go to the theatre.

It is reported that Lady Anne's funeral will be held next week, and high-ranking members of the royal family will come to the farewell ceremony with Elizabeth II's friend.
