Electricity prices in Baltic States doubled after disconnection from BRELL
As a result of the disconnection of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia from the BRELL, electricity prices on the wholesale market have doubled with the potential for further growth, and a number of enterprises have already announced their closure – as noted by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, TASS reports
According to Mr. Novak, ‘electricity prices on the wholesale market in the Baltic States have actually doubled’.
“If earlier they were about 100 Euros per 1MW, today the average price for the last 10 days is already 200 Euros, reaching 270 Euros on some days,” he said.
“We believe that this is not even the limit, because there is limited capacity with the adjacent energy systems of Sweden, Poland and Finland,” the Russian Deputy PM added, stressing that information had recently appeared about the closure of Estonia’s largest pulp and paper mill due to rising prices.
