Dumbadze: Belarus taking all measures to protect itself

The situation on Belarus’ western borders is still tense, and the country’s security forces are working intensively – as noted by the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Tengiz Dumbadze

Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin has recently said that Belarus and Russia have to work together to find measures to counter the ongoing unprecedented pressure and hybrid influence from the West. "Unjustified militarisation of the entire eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance is being carried out near the borders of the Union State, and the military infrastructure is being actively improved. The number of operational and combat training activities of the Alliance has been significantly increased on the neighbouring territories. Moreover, politicians’ statements are becoming bellicose,” he stated.

The defence and law enforcement agencies strengthen the Union State’s military security systematically and calmly, and this is especially important in conditions of tension in the information field. In this regard, Mr. Dumbadze urged Russians not to succumb to panic moods that are being imposed from the West. In Belarus, in his opinion, people have long understood that it is necessary not to worry about unverified information, but to do their work.

“We are taking all measures to protect ourselves. Belarus daily observes that tensions on the other side of our borders are heating up, and this is no joke," the parliamentarian noted. “Fortunately, our people are conscious, and they understand everything. We have no panic, and all are engaged in their own life affairs. The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is often asked about what should be done in such a situation, and he replies: mind your own business!”

Mr. Dumbadze stressed that the situation on the Belarusian border is under control, “By our presence along the borders, we demonstrate that we are always on the alert, we have equipment, resources and all possibilities [to respond to a provocation from the outside].”
