Deputy PM Karanik authorised to represent Belarus’ interests in EAEU, CIS bodies
On March 12th, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 105, according to which Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Karanik is authorised to deal with Belarus' activities within EAEU, to act as a representative of Belarus in the EEC Council and as the country’s national co-ordinator for CIS issues. The document was adopted in order to ensure the representation and protection of Belarus’ interests within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States, and to implement state policy in relevant areas, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian leader’s press service.
As Belarus’ national co-ordinator of Belarus for CIS issues, Mr. Karanik will work with interested government agencies and organisations to co-ordinate the development of mechanisms for the implementation of priority areas for the development of the country's co-operation in CIS. He also has the authority to submit proposals to the CIS Executive Committee on improving the activities of the Commonwealth for subsequent consideration at meetings of the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Heads of Government and the CIS Economic Council. In addition, the national co-ordinator oversees the implementation of the documents adopted within the CIS framework in Belarus.
The Deputy Prime Minister has authority over Belarus' activities within EAEU and has been appointed as the country's representative to the EEC Council – a body that provides overall management of the EEC's activities and regulates integration processes in EAEU, including organising work to improve legal regulation in EAEU, reviewing the results of monitoring and control over the implementation of the EAEU acts.
Given that Belarus is chairing the EAEU bodies this year, Mr. Karanik will serve as Chairman of the EEC Council, as well as co-ordinate and monitor the implementation by government agencies of priority areas of co-operation within EAEU, indicated in the address by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko to the heads of the EAEU member states.
