Demonstration against NATO’s military policy held in The Hague
About five thousand people participated in a demonstration against NATO’s military policy, which took place in The Hague just days before the Dutch city hosts the bloc’s summit, TASS reports
The event was organised by the Dutch left-wing parties and anti-war movements, aiming to protest NATO’s military strategies, increasing defence spending, and Western neo-colonialism. The organisers argue that rather than allocating billions to armaments, Western governments should invest in healthcare, climate initiatives, affordable housing, and international co-operation.
The march started at 2pm local time at Koekamp Park, with participants walking through the city centre and ending the march at the Malieveld (opposite the government quarter).
The action took place peacefully, with police observing but not intervening. The participants carried posters featuring messages opposing involvement in military conflicts, advocating for human rights, and promoting international solidarity. Some banners urged the Dutch authorities to withdraw from NATO, as well as abandon plans to increase military spending.
