Defence Ministry: remains of Russian Imperial Army soldiers reburied in Belarus

A ceremony of the reburial of the remains of soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army and the unveiling of a memorial sign, To Heroes of WWI of 1914-1918, has taken place in the Myadel District of Belarus, sb.by reports with reference to the Defence Ministry

According to the Defence Ministry, the perpetuation of the memory of the soldiers has become possible thanks to the 52nd separate specialised search battalion. During field search operations near the villages of Brusy and Cheremshitsy in the Myadel District, the military team discovered the remains of 170 soldiers of the Russian Imperial Army who fell during the First World War.

"Almost every year, several objects related to the First World War are included in field search plans. Currently, 239 graves from the period of WWI are on Belarus’ state register, and 23 of them are in the Myadel District," Sergei Kornev, the Head of the Department for Perpetuating Memory of the Fatherland Defenders and War Victims of the Armed Forces, said at the ceremony.

As reported by the Defence Ministry, the 52nd separate specialised search battalion has celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Over this time, its teams have conducted search operations at more than 3 thousand sites and identified almost 4 thousand names of dead soldiers and victims of the war.
