Decision on Belarusian state border protection in 2025

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko approved a decision on state border protection

Before being reported by Chairman of the State Border Committee Konstantin Molostov, the Head of State noted, “Traditionally, at the beginning of the year we once again approve a decision on the protection of the state border. Today’s decision is not just a state border line on land, on water and in the air. It is a very serious decision to protect the sovereignty and defence of our state.”

The Commander-in-Chief stressed that all power structures — from the police to the Defence Ministry — are involved in state border protection, because border guards alone cannot ensure the protection of 3,617km of the state border,
“To be frank, it is very important to us that, along with protecting the state border, the border guards warn us about threats in time. Other agencies are also involved in this. But above all, it is the task of our border guards to warn of possible threats to our security. Then, having mobilised all the forces available in the country — from the police to the army — we will be able to confront the enemy.”
The Head of State added that the situation on Belarus’ borders is difficult, “We are constantly talking about that. There is enough work today not only for border guards, but also for customs officers — especially at the checkpoints: the queues are huge on both sides, and this is an additional burden on our border guards.”
Chairman of the State Border Committee Konstantin Molostov reported on the decision itself, as well as on the results of the fulfilment of the Head of State’s instruction by the border service authorities.
According to the State Border Committee, the border service bodies are taking measures to improve the efficiency of border protection, build up engineering infrastructure, equip with weapons and machinery, and improve combat training.
In particular, within the framework of the Union State programme, the creation of a high-tech unit has been launched in the Polish section on the basis of the border outpost named after Hero of the Soviet Union Lieutenant Andrei Kizhevatov of the Brest Border Group. Its formation will significantly improve the reliability of security and allow for a shift from site patrolling to real-time response to situation developments, as well as optimise the staffing structure.

Among the priority tasks of the border service bodies this year is the continuation of building up the system of forces and means of the border service bodies, equipping them with modern weapons and machinery. The priority is to improve the combat training of military personnel, field training of manoeuvre groups, and ensuring the readiness of Belarusian border guards to stop armed and other provocations on the state border.
Based on the results of Konstantin Molostov’s report, the Commander-in-Chief approved the decision on state border protection by border guard bodies in 2025.
As reported by the State Border Committee, work continues on the Latvian section of the border to cover the border with a barrier fence. Latvian security forces do not stop the practice of mistreatment of refugees. The militarisation of the border areas continued in the Lithuanian direction: NATO exercises are being conducted in the immediate vicinity of the border with Belarus, and military contingents are being deployed.
Poland has focused its main efforts on carrying out measures to strengthen the established fence, as well as equipping the water area with an electronic security system.
In 2024, the Ukrainian side continued to equip the borders with reinforced concrete, barbed wire fences, anti-tank ditches and mines. In 2024, forty-one provocations were committed by Ukraine, 17 of which were related to the flight of drones into the territory of Belarus.
Last year, queues of trucks remained in front of the Kamenny Log, Grigorovshchyna, Benyakoni, and Kozlovichi road checkpoints. Their main reason is still the non-fulfilment agreements on the reception of vehicles by the neighbouring party.
