Dead body of refugee found on border with Poland

On the night of December 20th, on the border with Poland, a border patrol found the body of a man of non-Slavic appearance. The body was located not far from the gate in the Polish fence – as reported by the State Border Committee of Belarus in its Telegram channel.

The State Border Committee reported that, based on the traces left in the snow, the dead body was moved from Poland to Belarus through the animal migration gate in the Polish fence.

“During the initial examination of the dead refugee, bruises were found on the face and limbs. Among the personal things, documents of a Syrian citizen and a deportation order dated December 19th, 2022 with a ban on entry into Poland and other Schengen states for a period of three years, issued by the commandant of the Polish Border Post in Bobrowniki, were found,” the State Border Committee said in a statement.

An investigative team was called to the scene to establish the circumstances of the death. Investigations are currently underway.

According to the Belarusian border department, this is the sixth victim on the border with Poland since the beginning of the year. Previously, the dead bodies of refugees were found on April 3rd, October 2nd, and also on November 19th, 21st and 23rd.
