Cuban President: EAEU is alternative model able to oppose modern global problems

The importance of the Eurasian Economic Union is growing at the regional and international level, as evidenced by a growing trade turnover between its members and an increasingly frequent use of national currencies in settlements – as stated by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez in his video welcoming address to the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council participants

The President of Cuba stated that the international situation continues to develop according to a deplorable scenario under the influence of a multifaceted crisis, which is the logical result of an unfair world order.

“Some economically powerful states, despite the growing accusations and criticism, continue to pursue disgusting and unacceptable policies in order to interfere with the internal affairs of other sovereign states with the help of unilateral sanctions and media manipulation, thereby causing political destabilisation and international isolation of governments faithful to the ideas of socio-economic development and a just world order. Organisations such as the EAEU confirm that other relations are possible between peoples,” he said.

Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez stressed that the EAEU is actively developing as an integration mechanism and an alternative model capable of uniting the will of peoples and means to confront modern global problems, “The importance of this union is growing at the regional and international level, as evidenced by such tangible results as the growth of trade turnover between its member states and the increasingly frequent use of national currencies in payments.”

In the current difficult international situation, Cuba remains faithful to the ideas of building a more just world order in which the legitimate interests and development priorities of the countries of the South would prevail.

“As an observer member of the EAEU, Cuba believes that the growing diverse needs of our countries can be met only through the expansion of trade and partnership relations in accordance with the potentials of each state. Currently, there is an opportunity to increase the interchange between our countries in such areas as food and energy security, investment, industrial and technological development, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and many others," Miguel Diaz–Canel Bermudez concluded.
