Cuba expressed interest in purchasing BKM Holding machinery
Belarusian manufacturer of urban electric passenger transport, BKM Holding (former Belkommunmash), and representatives of the Cuban Industry Ministry have discussed prospects for co-operation at a meeting in Minsk, the enterprise’s media centre reports
“On February 11th, a delegation of the Cuban Industry Ministry visited BKM Holding, accompanied by Cuba’s Ambassador to Belarus Santiago Perez Benitez,” the enterprise informed. “The guests familiarised themselves with the company’s facilities for the production of electric passenger transport and discussed issues of co-operation.”
Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Cuba were established in 1992. The Embassy of Belarus on the Island of Freedom later became the first diplomatic mission of the republic in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cuba is a significant partner of Belarus in the international arena and one of its most important allies in the Western Hemisphere, as well as an important trading partner in Latin America. Belarusian exports to Cuba are based on tractors, trucks, internal combustion engines, tyres, spare parts, agricultural machinery and equipment.
Founded in 1973 as the Minsk Tram and Trolleybus Repair Plant, BKM Holding released its first Belarusian-made trolleybus in 1994 and the first tram in 1999. In 2009, the company finished developing its maiden low-platform tram; production of trolleybuses with increased drive range was launched in 2015. A year later, BKM Holding started making electric buses. Today, BKM Holding is a leading manufacturer of electric public transport, producing electric buses, trolleybuses, and trams, along with charging equipment for them.
