Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs: no religious denomination in Belarus remains aloof from life of society
Not a single religious denomination in Belarus remains aloof from the life of society, Belarus’ Commissioner for Religious and Ethnic Affairs Aleksandr Rumak told reporters after today’s meeting of President Aleksandr Lukashenko with representatives of religious denominations
Aleksandr Rumak drew attention to the fact that the Head of State had invited representatives of different confessions and religious movements to the meeting, “This is a vivid confirmation of the fact that Belarus has a unique situation of inter-confessional peace and harmony. Our legislation and, first of all, the country’s Basic Law guarantee everyone the right to choose a religion. At the same time, the legislation enshrines equal treatment of all confessions. The President had a very important conversation about how our people live. All confessions and religious movements are united in the need to preserve peace and harmony in the country. They share the state’s desire to preserve the traditional values of society and solve social problems. During today’s meeting with the President’s participation, clergymen spoke about their social work, about working together with government agencies and organisations to solve social problems. In other words, no denomination remains aloof from the life of society.”
