China started using quadruped rescue robots of its own production
The Chinese fire and rescue services have for the first time put into operation quadruped robots produced in the country that resemble dogs in shape, TASS reports citing the Global Times
It is noted that one of the rescue teams in the city of Changsha (central Hunan Province) received the first such robot dog, thus launching the process of mass introduction of such robots, which had previously passed the testing stage.
The robot is 1m long, 50cm tall when standing and weighs about 56kg. According to media reports, the mechanised dog has already participated in several rescue drills, including helping them in high-rise buildings. The robot dog is able to successfully perform tasks at temperatures ranging from minus 20 to plus 55 degrees Celsius. It is designed to travel over rough terrain with obstacles at speeds of up to 5 metres per second and is suitable for missions that require travelling distances of up to 10 kilometres.
The robot is equipped with remote control and is already being used in inspections at Chinese energy facilities and in law enforcement. The dog communicates in real time and is equipped with advanced sensors that can detect harmful gases and other hazards during a fire.
