Central Election Commission: observers from 40+ countries accredited to Presidential election in Belarus

International observers from more than 40 countries have been accredited to observe the Presidential election in Belarus – as informed by Secretary of the Central Election Commission Yelena Baldovskaya

“The accreditation of foreign observers continues, and there are a little more than 400 of them by now. The Central Election Commission continues to receive applications and questionnaires from relevant structures, and, accordingly, accreditation certificates are still being issued. A number of government bodies have the right to invite international observers: the Head of State, the Belarusian People’s Congress, the Government, the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, the Foreign Ministry, and the Central Election Commission,” Ms. Baldovskaya said.

The official added that invitations to the current election campaign had been sent not only to colleagues from the CIS central election commissions but also to representatives of other central bodies of the member states of the Association of World Election Bodies.

To date, observers from more than 40 countries have been accredited, and they will take part in monitoring the Presidential election in the Republic of Belarus. “These are representatives of the CIS, the European Union, the African continent, and Asia. Actually, the geography is wide,” the Secretary of the Central Election Commission noted.

“A little more than 37 thousand national observers have been accredited by the territorial precinct commissions by now, and their accreditation will last until the early voting begins – so January 20th will be the last day when subjects can send their representatives as observers to the relevant territorial and precinct election commissions,” Ms. Baldovskaya clarified.
