CEC Chairman: election of President of Belarus declared valid
5.9 million people took part in the voting in the Presidential election in Belarus. The election of the President of the Republic of Belarus is recognised as valid, with Aleksandr Lukashenko winning the largest number of votes – as stated by Chairman of Belarus’ Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko at a press conference on the preliminary results of the Presidential election in Belarus.
The CEC Head said that on January 26th, 2025, the Presidential election was held in the Republic of Belarus, “The campaign was conducted in accordance with the updated Constitution and the Electoral Code of Belarus within the deadlines established by the legislation and the calendar plan of organisational measures for the preparation and holding of the Presidential election, approved by the Central Election Commission.”
Mr. Karpenko also reported that since the beginning of the election campaign, the CEC has organised the work of the information centre to promptly respond to voters’ requests, which received more than 2,200 oral appeals from citizens. The centre staff took measures to promptly resolve the incoming requests.
“According to preliminary data, 6,903,994 voters were included in the lists of citizens eligible to participate in the election. 5,916,834 voters, representing 85.7 percent of the citizens on the voter lists, received ballots. 5,916,195 voters, or 85.69 percent, took part in the voting. Thus, the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus is recognised as valid,” the CEC Chairman emphasised.
Mr. Karpenko noted that 114 citizens permanently residing abroad and having consular registration took part in the election.
“It is especially pleasant to note that more than 95 percent of the total number of first-time voters included in the lists – over 88,000 people – came to the polls,” he added.
