Capsules with soil from Slovakia’s Kaliste Memorial brought to Belarus

At the invitation of the Belarusian veterans’ organisations, an official delegation of the Spisska Nova Ves District Administration (Slovakia) is visiting Belarus from March 20th-25th, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ Foreign Ministry

As part of the prepared programme, the Slovak delegation will visit the Khatyn Memorial Complex and the Memorial Church of All Saints in Minsk, where they will hand over capsules with soil taken from the territory of Slovakia’s Kaliste Memorial.

Reference. During WWII, during the Slovak National Uprising, the village of Kaliste became one of the centres of the partisan movement. On March 18th, 1945, the Germans surrounded Kaliste, burned almost all the houses and executed 13 people. The place where the tragedy took place was declared a national historical monument in 1961.
