Bulgarian MEP: EU itself suffers most due to anti-Russian sanctions

The conflict in Ukraine and the anti-Russian sanctions are hitting the European countries in the worst possible way – as noted by Bulgarian member of the European Parliament Petar Volgin in his talk with the STV TV channel

“I would very much like the Ukrainian conflict to end as soon as possible,” the Bulgarian MEP said. “I hope that this will be the goal of the new US administration. However, I am not sure that the European Union leadership will want to change its position towards Russia and Belarus. It seems to me that even if the US administration changes the American position and talks about the need for peace in Ukraine, the European Union leaders will make statements in a completely different way. They have already started talking about it.”

He recalled the statements of EU’s top foreign policy diplomat Kaja Kallas, who earlier expressed Brussels’ readiness to support Kiev even without the United States.

“They don’t want peace, they want this war to continue. Meanwhile, European leaders do not realise that this war affects European states in the worst possible way. Who suffers most from the sanctions, from everything that is happening? It is not Russia, Belarus or the United States, but the European Union. Because of these sanctions, because of this anti-Russian course, we suffer most of all. And the EU leaders do not want to admit it,” Mr. Volgin added.
