“The launch of this new specialty is due to the lack of training of specialists in this field in Belarus and a high demand for professionals who simultaneously have knowledge in the field of general biology, genetic engineering, omix technologies, computer science, mathematics and statistics,” the BSU explained.

The specialty is interdisciplinary and includes the study of genetic and cellular engineering, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology and structural biology, pharmacology, virology, biomechanics, organic and inorganic chemistry, thermodynamics, neural networks, deep data analysis, phenomics, molecular evolution and other disciplines. Students will be trained by lecturers of the biological, applied mathematics and computer science, mechanical and mathematical, chemical, radio-physical and computer technology faculties.

As informed, graduates will be qualified as bioengineer-bioinformaticians and will be able to work in scientific and practical centres, production biotechnology companies, enterprises related to medicine, bio-diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, landscaping, environmental protection, as well as IT companies related to bioinformatics, bioengineering, and others.

Enrolment will be available to the 1st and 2nd stages of higher education, on the free and paid basis.

As reported by the press service, the BSU Biology Faculty now offers training in four bachelor's degree specialties: ‘Biology’, ‘Biochemistry’, Microbiology’, and ‘Bioecology’. Master’s degree students are taught ‘Biology’, ‘Microbiology’, and ‘Biochemistry’. ‘Biology’ specialty is available for Master’s degree foreign students in English.

As informed, the BSU Geography and Geoinformatics Faculty will launch a new specialty in the 2022/2023 academic year: ‘Geotechnologies of Tourism and Excursion Activities’.
