BSTU establishes partnerships with Emirati universities

The establishment of partnership relations between the Belarusian State Technological University and universities of the United Arab Emirates was discussed during a visit of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to the Republic of Belarus, Ibrahim Salim Mohammed Al Musharrakh, to BSTU, the educational establishment’s press service reports

“The Belarusian State Technological University’s Rector, Igor Voitov, represented the BSTU educational programmes and research potential to the diplomat, who visited the permanent exhibition of sci-tech developments, the Museum of BSTU History and Education, the hunting study and wood collection rooms, the laboratory of geoinformation systems of the Department of Forest Management. Ibrahim Salim Mohammed Al Musharrakh expressed readiness to assist in establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with Emirati universities, and also expressed interest in implementing joint projects in such areas as greening desert areas, combating land desertification, water and wastewater treatment, production and use of highly effective organic fertilisers, projects in the field of green economy and climate change,” the press service reported.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the United Arab Emirates were established on October 20th, 1992. The two countries have concluded interstate agreements on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition, intergovernmental agreements on economic, trade and technical co-operation, on promotion and mutual protection of investments, on avoidance of double taxation, on liaisons in the field of mass media and air communication. In addition, interdepartmental agreements on co-operation in the field of higher education and scientific research, in customs affairs, on mutual understanding between the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and some other agreements have been signed. A bilateral treaty on mutual visa-free travel of citizens of Belarus and the UAE is in force, and work is underway between Belarusian and Emirati higher educational institutions to co-ordinate implementation of joint R&D projects.
