Brest Region Governor: Br7.5bn to be allocated for Pripyat Polesie development, with focus on land reclamation

At a meeting with the personnel reserve of the Brest Region, Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik emphasised that hardworking people live in Polesie, meaning there will be someone to implement the development programme for the Pripyat Polesie areas

Answering a question from Piotr Kulazhenko, who heads Okhovo JSC in the Pinsk District, Mr. Parkhomchik, expressed his opinion, “The programme, which is very necessary and envisages serious development of Polesie, has been approved by the Government. In late May, we submitted a map for the implementation of this programme. In September, it is supposed to be digitised in terms of funding. The budget for the next year is currently being formed, and we hope to defend our interests. The estimated cost of implementing the programme for 2025-2030 is Br7.5bn, of which Br3.5bn will go to the Brest Region. This money isn’t free. We don’t need anything for free. Polesie differs from other regions of the country. The most important thing is that locals still love their land and request it. I wish there was such an attitude towards land in all regions, because how much land we have that is not used for its intended purpose.”

The Brest Region Governor noted that the programme is already in action, in particular, the construction of farms continues.

“The water level in our rivers needs to be raised, and a lot of work needs to be done in the area of land reclamation. There were no floods this spring, the rivers have subsided. I would like the Yaselda, Pina, Pripyat, Bug and other rivers to be navigable. The development of the Pinsk Shipyard is a continuation of this theme,” Mr. Parkhomchik outlined one of the tasks.
