Borrell: Russian Rouble able to withstand western sanctions
Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, acknowledged that the Russian Rouble showed strong resistance to western sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation – as reported by TASS
“The Rouble has demonstrated strong resistance,” he said.
The Spanish politician stressed that the EU wants to help Ukraine but does not want to interfere in the war.
“We are doing everything we can, but without crossing red lines so that the conflict does not escalate,” noted Mr. Borrell.
The European foreign policy chief added that a new package of sanctions against Russia because of the situation in Ukraine will be agreed soon.
“We are still debating what to do with the energy,” added Mr. Borrell.
The politician did not rule out a decision to ban gas imports from Russia at the European level.
