Borrell: presence of European visa does not guarantee Russians entry to the EU

The presence of a Schengen visa is a precondition for a Russian tourist’s entry into the European Union, but it is not a guarantee that a citizen will be able to enter a certain state – as noted by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, TASS reports

According to the official, the foreign ministers of the European Union member states agreed at a recent informal meeting in the Czech capital that the EU countries should ensure control of their borders and all those entering. "That is, having a visa is not a guarantee that a Russian tourist will enter a particular country. This is a precondition, but he must pass control at the border, and he may not be allowed in," Mr. Borrell said.

At the same time, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs failed to name the grounds on which Russians may be denied entry.
