The Belarusian Prosthetics and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre hosted an international training seminar Development of High-Quality and Innovative Services in the Field of Prosthetics and Orthopaedic Care, during which Russian and Belarusian specialists presented their innovations, BelTA reports

Guests from Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan took part in the seminar. “We have been co-operating very fruitfully and closely these days. We have been exchanging experience, addressing issues on the introduction of innovative technologies in the production of our technical means of social rehabilitation, and also familiarising our guests with the range of our rehabilitation means,” the Head of the Department for Disabled Persons' Affairs at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus, Victoria Grechikha, stated.

Specialists of the Russian METIZ company presented their new products at the seminar, provided training on their installation and adjustment, and demonstrated the operation of a hip prosthesis with modules for various activities and a bionic arm prosthesis.

According to the Director General of the Belarusian Prosthetics and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre, Vladimir Kalevich, the centre has been co-operating with this company for a long time, sharing experience in the field of prosthetics, “The practical experience gained allows us to introduce new technologies, prostheses become more functional and patients become more mobile.”

During the seminar, a lower leg prosthesis was made for Nikolai Kozhemyachenko, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. During the testing, he shared that he is now ready to walk more than before and noted that he could feel more confident with the new prosthesis since the foot in it is made of several parts, which helps when encountering uneven surfaces.

Victoria Grechikha noted that more than 1,000 items of social rehabilitation technical means are currently being produced in Belarus, “Our national state register includes 59 rehabilitation means, of which 41 are produced by the prosthetic plant. However, our enterprises also carry out comprehensive rehabilitation of people with disabilities, and our guests also had the opportunity to get acquainted with all these activities.”
