Belyaev: under no circumstances can the world be unipolar

The hegemony of the US and the West is coming to an end – as noted by Dean of the Journalism Faculty at the Belarusian State University Aleksei Belyaev during his talk with Alfa Radio

Speaking about the Munich conference held last week, he noted that the world order - which was established as a result of WWII – had seriously changed after the collapse of the USSR, when, in fact, the formation of a unipolar world started, where the United States and European satellites close to them received the greatest favoured regime. Now the world is on the verge of another global reorganisation.

“Everyone clearly understands that the world under no circumstances can be unipolar, and today we are talking about the fact that either a new pole of power opposite to the West will be formed, or several such poles will be formed. For example, the Russian-European, American and Chinese poles can be formed – and on these three pillars a new world order can be supported,” said the expert. “The situation, in which there was only one prop in the form of the US and the EU dependent on it, has already become obsolete. The task of the United States is to get away from the title of world hegemon with the least losses, to negotiate for itself the remnants of influence. It is clear that now there is a serious confrontation between the US and China at the level of economy and technology. A growing Asia as a whole is also a serious challenge for the US and the EU,” explained the analyst.

According to Aleksei Belyaev, the United States and especially the European Union are now experiencing an economic decline. Therefore, at the Munich conference, in particular, there was a discussion of how best to retreat.
