Belteleradiocompany Head: Trump taking the collective West down a peg
US President Donald Trump has launched a trade war against China, Mexico and Canada. Interestingly, with regard to the latter, he decided to suspend the imposition of duties for 30 days after negotiations with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In his talk with Alfa Radio, the Chairman of the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company (Belteleradiocompany), Ivan Eismont, speculated on why this is happening, and what this confrontation may lead to.
American show starring Trump
“The American show, with Donald Trump in the lead, is in full swing. Actually, he loves to participate in shows and is a great showman himself. He is doing serious business, but the stakes are high. It is necessary to know him as a personality to understand the principle of his actions. Donald Trump's autobiographical books read that he is a fan of creating unusual situations, putting his rivals and others in an awkward, uncomfortable situation, and then making the most of it for himself. Out-of-the-box thinking is his main trump card," Mr. Eismont said. “We never know what to expect from him. Trump started trade wars, but he has already begun to wind them back and negotiate. I have noticed that the United States considers itself a hammer, and it views others as nails it needs to batter in. Canada, Panama, Greenland, the European Union, and Ukraine have already experienced this, and it is still unknown how this will end. Judging by his speeches in recent years, Trump has a special view on China: he considers the country the main threat to the prosperity of Great America – so he will deal with it. Serious steps will be taken in this regard, a real trade war is likely. Meanwhile, he is just taking all his ‘districts’ – Canada, the European Union and Ukraine — down a peg, showing them who is the boss. Trump makes decisions on what is happening in these countries and unions. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the future. A squeaky voice from Brussels has already pronounced that a response will follow – but we will see.”
Lukashenko warned: Europe will face problems after Trump comes to power
“Europe is already facing problems. These are extremely interesting historical times. A month ago, we discussed a lot about whether Trump would fulfil his promises to give a rocket after the election. Many agreed that he was just engaged in populism in order to gain votes and win the election, they said he would calm down and become an ordinary US leader after he takes office. This has not happened: he is taking not standard and scandalous steps," Mr. Eismont noted. “It is very important to understand whether he will go all the way. I am far from thinking that there will be an economic war between the European Union and the United States, because they have much in common. One party controls the other, and there are also common interests. Trump is teasing them, showing what their true place is. I am sure he will make the most of this situation for the United States. As for Europe, until its people unite and get rid of these freaks and pseudo-politicians, nothing good will develop there.”
Boomerang of justice reaches those who were against Belarus
“All those who applauded the coup attempts in Belarus in 2020 and then imposed sanctions on the republic are now losing the election. They are losing their political weight one after another, and this will happen to all those who have remained,” Mr. Eismont noted. “Those who remained have a rating at the margin of error: 15-20 percent. People hate them and do not support their position, including with regard to the Russian Federation and Belarus. People see what this policy has led to economically. The leadership of the European Union is facing difficult times. Therefore, I see two ways of how the events will further develop between Trump and politicians in Europe: he will either destroy them or threaten and then forgive these people. I think there will be no destruction: he will just show them what their place is.”
