Belstat: Russian investment in Belarus’ economy totalled $5.1bn in 2023

Belarus and Russia invariably support each other amid external pressure – as noted by Alla Bilenko, the Head of the Main Department for Co-ordination and Development of the Statistical Systems at Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (Belstat), sb.by reports with reference to the department’s Telegram channel

“A bilateral comparison of our countries’ GDP was carried out based on 2021 data, as well as on information received as part of the global round of the CIS international comparison programme. The results of this are purchasing power parities of currencies – used to compare GDP, GDP structure, GDP per capita, etc. We are also implementing a range of activities within the Union State programme. This year, the main areas of work will be the use of standard models in statistical production, the creation of a register of administrative data sources, as well as the use of alternative sources in statistical data production,” noted Alla Bilenko.

She underlined that Belarus and Russia invariably support each other amid unprecedented external pressure. “This is evidenced by statistical data for various industries. For example, last year’s mutual trade increased by 6.3 percent against 2022. In 2023, Russian investment in Belarus’ economy stood at $5.1bn – $1.2bn more compared to 2022. Moreover, there were 2,312 organisations with Russian capital in Belarus last year – 52 organisations more than in 2022,” the Belstat specialist cited the figures.
