The Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) is undergoing certification of the quality management system for the presentation of requirements to suppliers of services, goods and products for the nuclear industry – as reported by BelNPP’s Department of Information and Public Relations
“The first stage of certification of the organisation’s quality management system for compliance with the requirements of STB ISO 19443-2023 – Quality management systems. Specific requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2015 by organisations in the supply chain of the nuclear energy sector supplying products and services important to nuclear safety – was held at BelNPP on May 6th-7th,” the BelNPP’s press service informed.
For two days, specialists from the Belarusian State Institute of Metrology (BelGIM), the Belarusian State Accreditation Centre, Belenergo Production Association, and BelProektConsulting studied the current state of the company’s quality management system and documentation, and conducted interviews with the enterprise’s employees.
According to Aleksandr Yerin, BelNPP’s Deputy Director General for Quality, in accordance with the Council of Ministers’ Resolution No. 668 On Safety Regulation of the Use of Atomic Energy, all suppliers of services, goods and products to nuclear power plants must be certified in accordance with the new quality management system STB ISO 19443-2023. BelNPP will be the first facility in the country to be certified according to this system, although this certification is not mandatory for the plant.
“We are going through this process as a leader in the industry in order to set an example for those organisations that will follow us,” the specialist emphasised. “Among them are BelGIM, Belenergoremnaladka JSC and other companies. They are already contacting us and asking whether certification is required for a certain type of product, goods and services. In other words, the whole country is working in this direction.”
According to the expert, certification will take place in two stages. The second is scheduled for July 7th-8th. Before that, the power plant will have to take into account the areas for improvement identified by the expert group during the first stage of certification. The certificate will be issued on the basis of the results of the expert assessment.
Certification in the field of implementation of the specified management system is taking place for the first time in Belarus.
