Belenergo about stages before the commissioning of the second power unit
Deputy Director General of Belenergo State Production Association, Sergei Bobovich, spoke during an online conference on the BelTA website about the upcoming stages of work before the commissioning of the second power unit at the BelNPP
“The commissioning of the power unit includes the following major stages: pre-commissioning activities, physical start-up of the reactor, power start-up, and pilot operation. Now we have already launched the physical start-up. The loading of nuclear fuel into the reactor of the second power unit has been completed. Further works will be carried out on assembly and sealing of the reactor with the conduct of the necessary hydraulic tests, transfer of the reactor plant to a hot state and its bringing to the minimum controllable power level,” said Mr. Bobovich.
Then comes the power start-up. “It consists in bringing the reactor from the physical start-up power level to a level sufficient to start the turbine. Then it is brought to intermediate power levels, the operation is stabilised at these levels, and the necessary checks and tests of equipment and systems are performed. Afterwards we will start pilot operation. It is planned that by summer of 2022 the second power unit will already be connected to the grid,” said Belenergo Deputy General Director.
On June 10th, 2021, power unit No. 1 was put into operation. One of the main issues is not only the operation of this unit, but also the planning of repair works. “Scheduled preventive repair is an annual planned procedure carried out at the power units of the nuclear power plant in order to maintain a stable operating condition of equipment for guaranteed safe power generation. Today it has already been determined how the volumes of such works will be distributed and who will perform them at the BelNPP. We are in close contact with Rusatom Service – an organisation of Rosatom that performs repair works outside the Russian Federation and supplies equipment for them. Our commissioning enterprise Belenergoremnaladka will carry out works at the BelNPP outside the nuclear island, particularly, in the turbine department, chemical water treatment, and auxiliary equipment,” added Mr. Bobovich.
