Belarusian women against sanctions

The Belarusian Women's Union appeal on countering EU sanctions posted on UN website as an official document

The Union’s Chair – Deputy Healthcare Minister Yelena Bogdan – has met with the Council of Elders of the Belarusian Women’s Union to inform that 53,000 ladies signed the appeal against the sanctions imposed on Belarus. “This is a huge merit of our public organisation,” she stressed. “Pleasingly, the voice of Belarus has been heard.”

The Council of Elders – established to extend experience in protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women, families and children, ensuring the decent position of women in society, increasing their role in socio-economic and cultural life – was held for the first time, at Rakov’s Museum-Gallery. Nadezhda Yermakova was elected its Chair. The main directions of the Union's activities and plans of events on the eve of the National Unity Day and the 30th anniversary of the Belarusian Women’s Union were outlined.

According to Ms. Bogdan, the Union unites 5,008 primary organisations and mainly aims to pass on to the younger generation the best traditions in public and charitable activities that have developed for three decades. So far, many events have received a positive response among Belarusians. Among them are such campaigns as Female Wreath of Peace, Mom’s Pies, Give Joy, and Let’s Jointly Prepare a First-Grader’s School Backpack.
