Belarusian schoolchildren captured five medals at International Scientific Physics Olympiad

More than 100 high school students from 19 countries took part in the International Scientific Physics Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia) on July 3rd-10th. They represented 17 national teams from different parts of the world, coming to the intellectual tournament from friendly CIS countries, Asia and Latin America. As reported by the Education Ministry’s press service, Belarusians captured five medals.

The Olympiad was held in a mixed format: most of the national teams participated face-to-face, and four teams completed theoretical and practical tasks (many of which were of increased complexity) online. Young people had to solve three tasks based on real scientific articles, including using the method of computer modelling and analysis. In the experimental tour, they were asked to cope with real physical experiments on similar laboratory equipment.

According to the results of the prestigious intellectual competition in the ability to solve the most difficult problems in physics, all five participants from Belarus won medals and took the first place in the team rating. Young physicists from Belarus captured one gold and four silver medals. Kazakh schoolchildren were placed second, followed by physicists from Armenia.
