Belarusian polar explorers carried out air operation to deliver general cargo

In the period from January 13th to 15th, in the emergency mode, an air cargo operation was successfully carried out to deliver general cargo and specialists of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition from the Akademik Tryoshnikov research vessel to the Belarusian Antarctic station Gora Vechernyaya – as reported on the website of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NAS)

Three members of the expedition arrived at the station. The general cargo (31 tonnes) of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition was delivered without damage or loss.

“The successful conduct of the air cargo operation was facilitated by a clear professional interaction between the command staff, crew members and employees of the research vessel, the air squadron, the Russian and Belarusian Antarctic expeditions. Instruments for scientific observations, life support systems, means of transport and communications are operating normally,” said the National Academy of Sciences.

The personnel of the 14th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition continues the implementation of scientific programmes approved by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, technical work plans and environmental measures. The Belarusian Antarctic station has the necessary supplies of fuel, food, and medicines.

Stable satellite communications are maintained with foreign Antarctic stations, international co-ordinating centres, as well as Akademik Tryoshnikov and Akademik Fyodorov research vessels.

On November 15th, 2021, the solemn start of the 14th Belarusian Antarctic Expedition was given at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
