Belarusian Honorary Consul’s office opened in Japanese Hakodate

The Honorary Consul’s office has officially opened in the city of Hakodate, Hokkaido Prefecture, on November 8th – as informed by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service

The solemn ceremony was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Japan, Ruslan Esin, members of the Japanese Parliament, Hokkaido Prefecture Government, Hakodate City Hall, representatives of regional public organisations, business associations, and clergy.

The Honorary Consul will focus on development of bilateral economic, cultural, sports, and interregional liaisons.

Symbolically, the office is located in the city of Hakodate where a famous Belarusian and an outstanding diplomat – Iosif Goshkevich – and his wife Yelizaveta Goshkevich lived and worked for a long time.

The ceremony participants laid flowers at the bust of Iosif Goshkevich and at the grave of his wife.
