Belarusian doctors saved patient who was on verge of death three times

Aleksandr Dzyadzko, the Head of the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Department at the Minsk Scientific-Practical Centre of Surgery, Transplantation and Haematology and the chief freelance specialist at Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry, tells us the details

“A woman came to us in early October. After an emergency caesarean section, she was suffering from COVID. It was a coronavirus wave then; Delta strain was accompanied by many severe cases and a high percentage of lethality. We will remember Yulia for a long time: the lady came to us in an extremely serious condition, she was immediately on a ventilator. Yulia suffered from multiple organ damage, her lungs did not work, and her immune system was disabled for almost 3 weeks,” the doctor explains.

According to the specialist, dozens of doctors were involved in Yulia’s case, and the centre’s intensive care unit was used as a platform for their joint work. The woman’s body functions stopped working three times, and apparatuses were used to replace them.

“We have jointly achieved such a result when the patient can already walk and is now preparing to go home. We have no doubt that she will be fine. This is a great victory for the Belarusian medicine as a whole. It was a challenge: we had to reassess the situation several times a day and change our treatment,” Mr. Dzyadzko adds.
