Belarusian dairy producers to increase supplies to Egypt

On October 7th, Belarus and Egypt held a meeting of their joint working group to enhance co-operation in the agro-industrial sector, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian agrarian department’s press service

“A meeting of the Belarusian-Egyptian joint working group on agriculture took place at the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food via videoconference. The session was chaired by Ivan Smilgin, the Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister and head of the Belarusian part of the group. Egypt was represented by Dr. Mustafa Al-Sayyad, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, along with officials from the country’s scientific and governmental institutions,” the press service noted.

A significant increase in agricultural trade was noted, with volumes doubling last year compared to 2023. Belarus exported dairy products to Egypt, whereas Egypt supplied fruits, vegetables, melons, and coffee extracts and essences to the republic.

During the session, both sides addressed key areas for future interaction, including simplifying trade procedures, veterinary and phytosanitary certification, and Egypt’s recognition of Belarusian Halal certificates to enhance market access for Belarusian products. They also talked about registering and supplying Belarusian baby food to Egypt. Other topics included joint projects in feed production, exporting Belarusian agricultural machinery, advancing mechanisation, and fostering scientific and educational co-operation in food security. Challenges related to exporting livestock products and supplying Belarusian vegetable and fodder crop seeds to Egypt were also discussed.

Mr. Smilgin emphasised the strong interest of Belarusian dairy and meat processing companies in expanding their presence in the Egyptian market, “We are open to dialogue and ready to support business initiatives aimed at sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.”

He added that quality, reliability and long-term relationships are central to Belarus’ approach to international co-operation.
