Belarusian border guards found dead refugee on border with Latvia
On the afternoon of May 13th, Belarusian border guards discovered the body of a foreigner in the Verkhnedvinsk District, close to the border with Latvia, sb.by reports with reference to the Telegram channel of Belarus’ Investigative Committee
The body was found in a sleeping bag. An investigative team has arrived at the scene of the incident.
“During the examination, injuries were found on the man’s body, including abrasions, scratches and bruises on his face. Based on the documents found, the deceased is presumed to be an Afghan citizen,” the Investigative Committee said.
A forensic medical examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
An inspection is being carried out on the fact. The circumstances surrounding the death are being established.
According to the State Border Committee, since early May, two bodies of refugees have already been found on the Belarusian-Latvian border. Latvia’s migration policy has resulted in the deaths of four people since January and twenty-nine people since 2021.
“The actions of the Latvian security forces against refugees are a clear demonstration of the European Union’s inhumane migration policy. The ‘humane’ EU is destroying the lives of people who are forced to seek a safe place for their families,” the Belarusian border agency stressed.
