Belarus withdraws from Council of Europe's Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport

Belarus is withdrawing from the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport established by a resolution of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2007. The decision is stipulated by Decree No. 377 signed by the Head of State, Aleksandr Lukashenko – as reported by the Belarusian leader’s press service

The country’s withdrawal is due to the fact that, on March 17th, 2022, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe suspended Belarus' participation in all partial agreements of the Council of Europe for political reasons. In addition, the country has seen no practical results from its participation in the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport over the past two years.

The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport envisages co-ordination of efforts of the states to promote ‘development of sports for all’. The majority of the Council of Europe member states are parties to this document, in addition to countries outside the Council.

In July 2022, Russia decided to withdraw from a number of Council of Europe agreements, including the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport.
