Belarus will not depend on western corporations, expert believes

In his talk with Alfa Radio, political expert Aleksei Dzermant said Belarus will build up its economic policy in the way so that not to depend on western corporations

“A cold shower of sanctions and western pressure will force us to become more independent and self-supporting. This is our goal. If we pursue our own policy, then we should not critically depend on the whims of western politicians and their corporations. We need to build up our own economic contour and depend as little as possible on the global economy of western corporations. This has always been a strategic goal of Belarus. The situation presses us to progress more dynamically and at a quicker pace,” Mr. Dzermant stressed.

The expert also shared his opinion on the development of Belarus-Russia integration in the current conditions, “We have been raising issues in trade and economic relations with Russia for a long time. Dependence on the Dollar is fatal for us, and therefore we made a decision to shift away from it. Now there are agreements on settlements in Roubles for Russian energy. We are also agreeing on import substitution and industrial co-operation. Many markets in Russia are now open for Belarusian products. Despite the sanctions pressure, I am convinced we will see a growth in the number of jobs and competence. As a result, everything will be for the better for both states.”

Mr. Dzermant considers the Dollar will soon lose its position on the international market. “The United States has got used that the Dollar is a universal currency, and the country is the main beneficiary. The Dollar has always been backed by the political and military power of the United States – and it is now getting weaker. Many countries start getting rid of this currency in mutual settlements, while building up their own contour. We will come up with our own means of payment, many countries will have other payment systems. The Dollar ceases to be a financial hegemon, and this will become a cruel blow for the US financial system. Sooner or later it had to happen,” he explained.
