In his speech, Mr. Lukashevich stressed that Belarus fully shares the philosophy and approaches of BRICS, including the building of a just multipolar world, sustainable socio-economic development, and equal and mutually beneficial co-operation in all areas. In this regard, the country’s readiness to join the work of the BRICS co-operation formats in key areas of the association's activities — political, economic and humanitarian – was noted.

Support was expressed for the priorities of the Brazilian BRICS presidency in 2025: reforming the system of international relations and security, addressing climate change, co-ordinating efforts to counter biological threats and combat dangerous diseases, and improving the international monetary and financial system.

The attention of the BRICS members and partners was also drawn to the Belarusian initiative to develop a Eurasian Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century, designed to contribute to the creation of an architecture of equal and indivisible Eurasian security. Belarus also called on the BRICS countries to pursue a unified line on international platforms to counteract the policy of sanctions, trade and tariff wars.

The meeting of the BRICS foreign ministers in Rio de Janeiro became the first high-level event in which the Republic of Belarus participated in the official status of a BRICS partner state (the country got it on January 1st, 2025).

During his visit to Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Lukashevich also held bilateral meetings with the leadership of the delegations of Bolivia, Brazil, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, and Thailand – focusing on the issues of strengthening co-operation both on a bilateral track and within international organisations.
